Since most studios are looking for their next tent pole franchise, I feel like Dresden Files would be a good candidate for the movie treatment. I realize there was a short lived crappy TV series already, but why not a movie?
Here’s my list of reasons:
-A wealth of material to draw from. There are a ton of Dresden novels with a lot going on in them.
-A chance to contract a lead for a number of films and keep them with a studio. I really could see David Tennant in this or maybe Tom Hiddleston.
-All that supernatural stuff the kids are into. Seriously, this stuff is big right now, from the echoes of Harry Potter to the prominence of Twilight, and this is an opportunity to play to that.
-The books contain a bit of violence and sexuality, but nothing that I don’t think could be parsed down to hit the PG-13 sweet spot, hugely marketable.
The next Dresden Files book is on it’s way to us this November (27th). Butcher is also working on his next project, a steampunk series called The Cinder Spires. The first book of which may be coming to us next year.
After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad. Because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard.
He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long. And now, her word is his command, no matter what she wants him to do, no matter where she wants him to go, and no matter who she wants him to kill.
Guess which Mab wants first?
Of course, it won’t be an ordinary, everyday assassination. Mab wants her newest minion to pull off the impossible: kill an immortal. No problem there, right? And to make matters worse, there exists a growing threat to an unfathomable source of magic that could land Harry in the sort of trouble that will make death look like a holiday.
Beset by enemies new and old, Harry must gather his friends and allies, prevent the annihilation of countless innocents, and find a way out of his eternal subservience before his newfound powers claim the only thing he has left to call his own…
Reddit’s /r/dresdenfiles was very punny tonight.
Molly answered my phone last night and talked to someone at Penguin (fine publishers of my casefiles). Not sure what they discussed all around, but she said a few samples from COLD DAYS should be available for free before the casefile is published. We don’t have any dates for that yet, but I guess…
Hipster Harry Dresden
Haha, we need more Dresden Files memes.
